ON APRIL 21ST 1969 AN ORDER WAS PLACED BY AN UNKNOWN AUTHORITY GIVING THIS CHASSIS ITS BIRTH WITH AN EXECUTIVE ORDER NUMBER 9999. ONLY A SENIOR EXECUTIVE ENGINEER COULD HAVE AUTHORIZED THIS ACCESS CODE. ITS ALL ABOUT PLANNING. THE FIRST DAY OF PRODUCTION FOR THE MUSTANG BOSS 302 WAS THE 18 TH OR 19 TH OF APRIL 1969. AFTER THE ORDER WAS PLACE FOR G 48 ON APRIL 21, 1969. IT WAS NEARLY THREE WEEKS BEFORE THE SHELBY VIN. 2244 WAS AVAILABLE FOR PRODUCTION OF THIS CAR. THE PLANNING FOR THIS PARTICULAR VINNED SHELBY WAS BUILT ON MAY 6, 1969 AND RELEASED ON MAY 8, 1969 FROM THE PLANT. INSTEAD OF GOING TO A.O. SMITH WHERE ALL OTHER '69 SHELBYS WENT TO BE CONVERTED, G482244 WENT TO KAR KRAFT IN LAVONIA, MICHIGAN. THIS IS WHERE FORDS' DESIGN ENGINEERS WORKED, FORD ALSO KEPT PROTOTYPE CARS THERE. (KAR KRAFT IN BRIGHTON, MICHIGAN WAS FOR PRODUCTION.)

AT THIS POINT RECORDS ARE UNCLEAR ON WHAT HAPPENED. HOWEVER, THE RECORDS DO STATE THE PROGRAM'S INTENT WAS TO BUILD TWO-HUNDRED BOSS SHELBYS FOR 1970. CARROLL SHELBY UPON RESIGNING FROM FORD THE END OF MAY CEASED ALL PROGRAMS LEAVING THIS AS THE ONLY BOSS SHELBY BUILT. THIS VEHICLE WAS BUILT AS A CONSECUTIVE NUMBERED SHELBY WITH A FORD UNIT ORDER ID NUMBER 84X999. EVERY '69 SHELBY RECEIVED THIS NUMBER TO NOTIFY THE FORD CHASSIS ASSEMBLY LINE. THIS WAS TO BE BUILT AS A SHELBY. G482244 RECEIVED A COMPLETE BOSS 302 SUSPENSION AND DRIVE TRAIN. IT WAS INTENDED TO BE A VERY SPECIAL SHELBY.

AUGUST OF 1969, 9F02G482244 WAS RELEASED FROM FORD BY OTTO BREY, AN EXECUTIVE ENGINEER. HIS TITLE AT FO MO CO WAS (A DRAFTBOARD DESIGN ENGINEER ON THE MUSTANG SHELBY COBRA BODY DESIGN LINE IN 68/69.) HOW OR WHY HE REMOVED THIS CAR FROM FORD IS NOT KNOWN. OTTO GAVE IT TO HIS SON, ROBERT BREY AGE 19, AS A GIFT IN AUGUST OF '69. ROBERT HAD THE CAR FOR FIFTEEN YEARS. DURING THAT PERIOD, HE HAD THE ENGINE REPLACED TWICE BEFORE SELLING IN '84. ROBERT'S WIFE SAID EVERY TIME HE GOT BEHIND THE WHEEL, HE DROVE IT LIKE A TYPICAL SIXTEEN YEAR OLD. ROBERT BREY'S WIFE SAID HE HATED SELLING THE CAR BUT IT WAS RUNNING VERY POORLY IN '84. ROBERT LOVED THIS CAR VERY MUCH, HIS WIFE SAID, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT WAS A GIFT FROM HIS FATHER. OTTO BREY PASSED AWAY IN '76 FROM CANCER. ROBERT, OTTO'S SON, WAS A VENDING MACHINE PARTS MANAGER FOR TWELVE YEARS. HE PASSED AWAY IN '96 FROM COMPLICATIONS OF KIDNEY FAILURE.

THE BREY FAMILY CLAIMS THAT THIS CAR, G482244, WAS A PROTOTYPE AND THAT ONLY TWELVE IN THE SERIES WERE MADE--FOUR MODEL TYPES WITH DIFFERENT SPECIAL ITEMS AND ONLY THREE OF EACH STYLE. IN RECENT CORRESPONDENCE, THE BREY'S CONFIRMED THEY KNEW IT WAS A SPECIAL CAR, AND THE REASON OTTO BREY REMOVED IT FROM FORD TO GIVE TO HIS SON.
